The Department of Defense National Survey of Employers

Welcome to the webpage for The Department of Defense National Survey of Employers. At this time, the survey period is closed. Thank you to all employers that completed the survey, we appreciate you taking the time to do so and look forward to reviewing your feedback.
The Department of Defense National Survey of Employers was sponsored by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), the principal advocate for employer issues within DoD, andis the largest study of its kind since the United States entered sustained military operations nearly 10 years ago in the aftermath of September 11th, 2001.
Support for this initiative has been widespread and the DoD will now have valuable employer feedback to assist with future decisions. Quotes from government leadership in support of this effort:
- Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, “for the past nine years our nation has been at war and we have asked a tremendous sacrifice of the civilian employers of our National Guard and Reserve members. Your response has been inspiring. We could not do it without you. From providing differential pay for activated Reservists to caring for families of our deployed Guardsmen, employers across the nation have proven themselves to be critical partners in our national defense. As we look to the future, I ask for your input to help us shape policies concerning the relationship between our service members and their civilian employers. I encourage employers across the nation to take part in The Department of Defense National Survey of Employers. Your feedback will allow us to build on the success of the past and chart a mutually beneficial course for the future. Thank you for your patriotism and continued support of our citizen warriors in the National Guard and Reserve. When it comes to the defense of our nation, we all serve.”
- Dr. Clifford Stanley, Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel & Readiness), "Our nation's military has relied heavily on the willing sacrifice and service of our National Guard and Reserve forces, and they in turn have relied on their supportive civilian employers. The partnership that exists between the Department and those civilian employers has been unshakeable for nearly a decade, and I am confident it will remain solid in the years to come. Enhancing Department of Defense policies to better support our nation's finest assets requires open communication and transparency, which is why I encourage you to share your opinions, thoughts, and successes. Please take time to participate in the Department of Defense National Survey of Employers and let us hear your voice. Thank you for continuing to be a vital member of our national defense team."
